How do Asian Americans stand on the issue of environmentalism? Their stance on this issue may also hint at their positions on other issues such as abortion or gay marriage, and may even suggest political affiliation. Regardless, Asian Americans are growing in numbers. As educated Americans, they too understand and realize the human impact on our environment. Naturally, it comes to no surprise that many Asian Americans are environmentalists, who cares about the environment and are willing to take action.

Asian Americans care for the environment in a number of ways, including advocating for political change. A recent survey in California, a state with one of the largest Asian American populations in the United States, shows that yes, Asian American voters consider themselves environmentalists. This phenomenon is not just a result of their Asian American culture, rather, the result of understanding and accepting scientific research and what is going on around them.

A recent poll by the California League of Conservation Voters Education Fund shows that, while a little more than 50% of Californian voters consider themselves to be environmentalists, an astounding 83% of Asian American voters fall into that category. In this survey, Asian American voters have listed global warming as a top concern. Not only do they realize this, but they’re also willing to do something about it.

Asian Americans make up about 12.5% of California’s population. The population is growing at a quick pace, in fact, the Asian American population is considered the fastest growing major ethnic group in the state. As such, their vote and voice becomes important to state politics, especially when it comes to voting on environmental laws.

85% of Asian American voters said that they would be very likely to vote in favor of protecting the environment. Another 80% suggested that they would be more likely to back a candidate with a strong pro-environment platform. How does this relate to political affiliation? Democrats are more likely to back environmental causes compared to Republicans; for example, take a look at the current Canadian pipeline situation. Asian Americans also believe that the government should play a more active role in protecting the environment, including finding sources for alternative fuel.

The general Asian American population believes in the importance of protecting the environment. Knowing that Asian Americans care about the environment, politicians must be willing to run on a pro-environmental platform, in order to get the Asian American vote. Of course, environmentalism is not the only factor at play, but it sure is an important one. Asian Americans care for the environment by volunteering, but the political impact they make on pro-environmental bills is far greater than planting a few trees here and there.

Going green at home can be simple and hassle free with just a few changes in your daily habits. One of the best advantages of these changes is that you will not only be helping the planet, but can save money as well.

One of the first things that you can do is to recycle plastic, paper and glass items when done with them. You can keep separate bins in your kitchen or garage, lined with trash bags, to put the items into. When full, you can turn them in to your local recycling facility. Many times you can earn money for turning in aluminum cans and glass bottles, depending on what state you live in.

Instead of buying paper towels, cut up old shirts and towels to make convenient rages. These can be washed and reused over and over. This is much better than throwing them out where they will only end up in a landfill. They are great for cleaning and multitudes of other uses, along with saving you money on purchasing towels at the store.

Another smart way to go green is to grow your own vegetables in a small house garden. You can use vegetable scraps and grass clippings from your yard to make rich compost for the plants. You can also save a ton of money eating your own food versus shopping at the local grocery store. Recycling, growing your own food and reusing old items in new ways can make going green an enjoyable experience.

The first thing you can do is keep the lights to a minimum. If you are leaving a room, just shut off the lights. If you are in a room where the natural light is heavy then open the shades and let the massive amount of natural lights come in and try and fill the room.

When you are tending to your needs for the week make sure that you are doing the things necessary to save on the cost of gas. This is not nearly as easy as it may seem, but failing to do so is a real time and energy suck for the environment. So make sure that you drive the speed limit. Also see if you can combine your errands into the same trip. It’s important as that kind of consolidation will make things easier on your stress level, your car, and the world around you.

Just turn it down and be happy with the idea that you are going to be saving the earth and your electric bill.

This is a simple one, but it’s true. When we use paper these days we tend to be wasteful of it. We tend to not see that we are wasting paper because you use so little of it.
