As the Northern Hemisphere goes through massive floods and tornadoes, there is a flurry of speculation about these events and the relationship between global warming and El Niño. Although most scientist will admit there is a connection, all will say it is difficult to prove.

El Niño is a periodic weather event where the ocean waters are warmer than normal, thus causing heavy rains in the north and stronger hurricanes in the South Pacific. In the last 120 years, scientists have been able to track it as a recurring phenomenon. However, there have been more El Niños than predicted in recent years. Although it’s not definite proof of a relationship between nature and global warming, it’s hard to ignore that weather patterns seem to be mirroring human activities.

Since no one can empirically prove that global warming effects El Niño, we have to take a leap of faith and simply commit to going green. It won’t hurt us, and maybe it will help us. If the idea of buying expensive natural products turns you off, try the old fashioned practice of re-using grocery bags, plastic containers and bottles. Our grandparents did this to be frugal, and this is certainly a generation that could benefit from that! On the other hand, a reduction in production of the plastics, used in the many containers we buy, could only have a positive effect on the carbon cycle throughout the planet. If everyone on earth made one simple change to their lifestyle, that was green, then over time, we could probably scientifically prove that humans can have a positive effect on the environment, too.

Try to digitize as many operations as possible. For example, if you process numerous contracts, have clients start signing documents electronically to reduce paper use and gas consumption.
• Reuse Paper – If you must print, consider using the other side of paper that’s already been used. Conversely, save anything that you print for later uses, such as notepaper or package filler.
• Buy a Plant – If you really want to make your desk green, buy a plant or two. Plants naturally absorb pollutants in the air, including the radiation emitted from computers. While taking in all the bad stuff floating in the air, plants will release some much needed oxygen into the office.

• Travel Green – Your daily commute can have a big impact on the environment. Traveling alone in a car is a major carbon contributor. By carpooling with co-workers, you can take multiple cars off the road. If available, use public transportation, some of which run on electricity, for your work commute. Even better, consider riding a bike if you live and work in a city.
• Make Building Requests – The amount of resources that office buildings consumer can make them major pollution contributors. Offer recommendations to the building supervisor or owner to make it more green. Installing green products like LED light bulbs and waterless urinals will not only help save the environment, but help save the building money.

So once these resources are gone it’s all gone. The other issue is that many of these natural resources, like trees, are responsible for picking up our CO2 that we release into the atmosphere. It picks up a lot of it. If trees are not around to pick it up it just creates a problem of having too much carbon dioxide and that means that there is an increased risk of having a bigger hole in the ozone. That’s what is making the temperature rise. These are part of the reason why there is so much talk about keeping the air clean and using alternative fuels. It’s an issue that should concern us all.

The Toyota Prius PHV will be available in 2012. This car is one more addition to the Nissan Prius line, and, in fact, it is largely based on the 3rd generation Prius that is currently available.
The main differences between the 3rd generation Prius and the Prius PHV are in the type of batteries that are used to provide the electric power, the ability to recharge from standard household current, and the ability to switch from electric to fuel-driven.

The batteries used in the Prius PHV are lithium-ion batteries. The batteries weigh very little, which ensures

they will not hinder fuel mileage performance, and allow a driving range of approximately 13 miles. When the batteries need recharging, the owner does not have to find a specific outlet in which to connect the plug.
The ordinary 110V current that is found in most households is sufficient to charge the battery in only three hours.When the fuel feature is activated, drivers can expect to receive somewhere in the range of 50 miles per gallons. This makes the Prius both energy and fuel-efficient.

The Nissan Leaf is the next candidate in the elite category of plug-in cars. This car has the capacity to hold five people, and has five doors to make it easy for all these people to enter and exit the car. In addition, the Leaf has a zero-emissions exhaust. The main reason for this is because the Leaf is totally electric; unlike hybrid vehicles, it cannot be switched over to fuel usage. This may not be a problem, though, since the Leaf can travel up to 100 miles between charges.

Occupying the number 3 spot is the Chevy Volt. This car will be available in 2012, but was introduced at the last Detroit Auto Show. According to the descriptions, the Chevy Volt will travel approximately 40 miles between charges on its lithium-ion batteries. When they are depleted, drivers can switch over to the fuel feature, which will use either gasoline of E85, which is an ethanol-gas blend.

A price has not yet been set for this model of plug-in car, but it is expected to be within the same range as other plug-ins. Prices have already been set for the Prius PHV and the Leaf, so drivers can begin making comparisons on these two models.

Acidic level of seas causes it difficult for marine life to sustain. Human beings who survive on fishing or other related activities are finding it difficult as well.

Oxygenation of the oceans has decreased considerably. When oxygen is not able to dissolve itself into water properly, underlying marine life gets affected. Mammal might escape this condition, but most other life in the oceans depends on dissolved oxygen. Decreased oxygen can also be caused due to algae that indiscriminately absorb large amounts of oxygen. Global warming is also a culprit in the warming of oceans and destroying dissolved oxygen.

Fish are heavily dependent on dissolved oxygen. When there is no oxygen levels, or even low oxygen levels, fish will not survive. A recent study showed that there are plenty of low oxygen region across the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. Year on year, oxygen levels have been falling. These statistics are threatening to note. It will certainly not be a surprise, when we see a mass wipe-out of marine life in certain parts of oceans.

Scientists are taking concerted measure to induce man-made carbon dioxide capture and retention mechanisms in the oceans. One such is embedding the oceans with iron filings. But such an effort might further deoxygenate the oceans. However, iron might still capture carbon dioxide to trigger the growth of marine planktons.

Nanoparticles are tinier than a billionth of a meter. They will easily float around in the air without being detected. So this makes them very much susceptible to be inhaled. When inhaled they could easily get into vital organs. As advancements in nanotechnology increase, more and more nano-particle wastage is being produced. Desertification does not happen everywhere. It happens only in areas that are semi-arid in nature. Semi-arid areas are degradable due t desertification. Forests are disappearing at a rapid rate. Forests are competing with human beings for survival. Coming back to the issue of desertification, a saddening thing to note is that once an area is turned into a desert, it is an irreversible process. Harbingers of desertification are many. Soil depth is at a low in such cases. No cultivation is successful. The top layer breaks into crusty layers. Ground water turns salty. Low or absolutely no vegetation is present. All these are some common indicators of desertification

Everyone needs to become aware of nature and how to keep the environment safe for our children. People misuse natural resources so wantonly, and pollute our environment in a such horrible manner, that one would think they have no thought for what kind of a world they would bequeath their children.

This is strange, considering that supposing a billionaire makes his billion by throwing rancid garbage into the waters of the ocean. What exactly is he doing but destroying the world in which his own children would live? However, the irony is that if you ask this same man for whom he is making all that money, nine out of ten times you would hear them say they are making money so that their own future progeny can live without financial worry.

We told patrons how to save the world one breath at a time, and we told the restaurant owners how to purchase restaurant supplies conscientiously, in a manner that makes it well known that your restaurant does not deal in material that would harm mother nature. Our nature-conscious union of local restaurateurs, waiters, waitresses and other restaurant-related personnel observe one day in the year in this manner.

It is important for everyone everywhere in the world to do his or her little bit to help secure nature for posterity. With the growing corporation pollution of nature, rampant garbage disposal, and a host of other socio-technological ills, it remains for us to make sure that along with our estate, we provide our kids with a pollution-free world.

Global warming is a serious hot-button issue today. When thinking of ways to help the environment, moving to renewable sources of energy, such as hydro power, is a huge step in the right direction. Not only is hydro power a renewable energy source, meaning it won’t run out, it has an extremely low carbon footprint.

Paper, plastic, and glass are recyclable, and so are aluminum cans. Don’t throw those things away. Get some bins, cans, or other containers and divide up your recycling so that you have a separate space for each type of material you’re recycling. If you have a garden or a yard area, consider a compost pile where you can recycle a lot more of the trash you would normally just throw away. The fossil fuels that we use today will not be replenished. Once they are gone, they are gone forever. More focus needs to be put on finding renewable, environmentally friendly energy sources. By now, almost everyone has heard of the BP oil spill in the Gulf Coast that started in the first half of 2010. This oil spill is now on record as the most damaging oil spill to date. Though experts disagree on the exact amount of oil that was released into the ocean, most agree that it was well over 200 million gallons. The explosion that caused the spill also caused the death of 11 individuals. The tragedy of this oil spill started on April 20, 2010. The oil was allowed to continue spewing into the ocean until the middle of July.

In July, the United States House of Representatives decided to pass a bill that they hope to help prevent a disaster like this in the future. The bill states that any company that has had more than 10 fatalities on either their onshore or offshore facilities will not be allowed permits to drill in the Gulf of Mexico.

There have been around 826,000 barrels of what has been deemed “oily liquid” recovered through skimming operations controlled by British Petroleum. They have also done 411 controlled burns. Between these two operations, there has been an estimated 265,000 barrels of oil removed from the water.

This oil spill has been catastrophic in terms of of the ocean life that lives in the Gulf Coast. Innumerable amounts of sea creatures have died due to the oil spill. The economies of the cities on the coast have suffered as well. In an area that depends on the shrimping and fishing of the coast to keep the economy going, a spill of this proportion is devastating.

There are ongoing efforts both by BP and by other groups to not only clean up the oil left in the ocean, but to also keep the wildlife going in the area. Many species have been put into safe habitats in an attempt to keep them from extinction. Many people are concerned that the Gulf Coast will never be the same because of this disaster.

Many people do not understand the difference between a national park and a national forest. The biggest difference between the two is that a national park is not required to be mostly woodland areas. National parks are both for the enjoyment of people, as well as the protection of wildlife. Both national parks and national forests are owned by the federal government and protected by it as well.

To be defined as a national park, an area must have at least one ecosystem that has not been changed by the exploitation of humans. It also must have plants, animals, or sites that are interesting beautiful, or of interest to the scientific community. The great thing about national parks is that they are open to the public for recreation, cultural, and educational purposes, to name a few.

Yellowstone National Park was the first of it’s sort, not only in the United States, but in the world. The land was set aside and deemed a national park in 1872. Yellowstone National Park is also one of the most well known national parks in the world.

The United States claims 58 national parks. These are all taken care of and operated by the National Park Service. There are national parks in 27 of the 50 states in the United States. Alaska and California tie for the most national parks in their states. They each have a total of eight parks. There are a total of seven areas that were at one time considered national parks, but are no longer. Many of them have been redesigned or incorporated into other existing national parks.

Not only are these areas full of beauty, but national parks also help preserve our environment. Keeping habitats alive for animals and plants is a great reason to keep these parks preserved. There are many types of wildlife that dwell within national parks that are close to extinction.

In the United States, there are currently 155 national forests. A national forest is land that is owned by the federal government, and is mostly woodland areas. National forests are protected by law, and are a safe haven for many species of wildlife. Nearly 8.5% of the land in the United States is considered national forest area. A large majority of this land is west of the Mississippi River, and Alaska holds a huge 12% of national forest land.

One thing that many people do not realize is that many ski resorts and other vacation hot spots tend to be operating within the vicinity of a national forest. Camping is allowed in national forests as well. This can be a beautiful way to spend some vacation time.

Shoshone National Forest was the first national forest in the United States. The land was put aside to be held as federal land in 1891. Shoshone National Forest has nearly 2.5 million acres of land, and this land ranges from sagebrush to mountains. It covers from the Montana state line into Wyoming.

National forests are important to our environment. They are protected land, though they are open to the public. One of the major reasons for national forests in the United States is to preserve not only the animal wildlife, but also the plants. There have been many arguments between environmentalists and entities such as logging companies about the use of national forests. Though some of the national forests in the country are made mostly of replanted woodlands, many of them are preserved in their natural state.

There are areas that endangered species thrive, and therefore, many feel that these should stay untouched. Others feel that the land is perfect for expansion as well as industrialization. Walk, ride a bike, or take a bus when you can. If the phrase, “ refinance car loan” pops into your head, do it! Pay off your car and get a more fuel-efficient model.  There are many ways to help our environment, it just takes making a decision to go green and stay lean.

Some groups, concerned for the environment and the hazards of dust to humans, have urged the United States Environmental Protection Agency to do something to regulate the dust kick ups. Another factor is the amount of oxygen dissolved in the oceans around the world may decline and this will begin killing off the precious ocean life. This is a source of great discomfort for those who recognize the struggles of global warming. No one wants to see aquatic life killed off and yet it seems unless the earth gets better treatment this will only continue.

The first thing they do is enact laws that make it difficult to pollute the earth. You might be asking how can they do that? Well there are companies that the government has that make it there job to go around and test power plants and factories and see how many fossil fuels they are burning and how much pollutants they are releasing into the earth’s atmosphere. If they are in violation there can be severe penalties. They also make sure this information is available to the public because once the public sees how gross they are being to the environment it could cause for boycotts and a loss of profits and that’s the very last thing a business wants to see.

Companies who decide to go green on the other hand get a great opportunity to save their business money. The government decides to give tax breaks to companies who make good choices about how they conserve energy. They allow them to convert to alternative sources of power and will give them money towards the installation. This is the best possible solution to getting the government to embrace them. The government will reward them for being so eco friendly.
